Valuation Theory. Part I

In the article we introduce a valuation function over a field [1]. Ring of non negative elements and its ideal of positive elements have been also defined. The notation and terminology used here have been introduced in the following We use the following convention: x, y, z, s are extended real numbers, i is an integer, and n, m are natural numbers. The following propositions are true: (1) If x ...

Clemens ’ S Conjecture : Part I

This is the first of a series of two papers in which we solve the Clemens conjecture: there are only finitely many smooth rational curves of each degree in a generic quintic threefold. In this paper, we deal with a family of smooth Calabi-Yau threefolds fǫ for a small complex number ǫ. If fǫ contains a smooth rational curve cǫ, then its normal bundle is Ncǫ (fǫ) = Ocǫ (k) ⊕ Ocǫ (−2− k) for k ≥ ...

The Matrix Theory S – Matrix Jan

The technology required for eikonal scattering amplitude calculations in Matrix theory is developed. Using the entire supersymmetric completion of the v/r Matrix theory potential we compute the graviton–graviton scattering amplitude and find agreement with eleven dimensional supergravity at tree level.

Matrix Models and 2D String Theory

String theory in two-dimensional spacetime illuminates two main threads of recent development in string theory: (1) Open/closed string duality, and (2) Tachyon condensation. In two dimensions, many aspects of these phenomena can be explored in a setting where exact calculations can be performed. These lectures review the basic aspects of this system. [email protected]
